Welcome to the homepage of the OPALIS project at the University of Bonn. Here you can find some information about our work supporting shared usage of Geo scientific data being stored at different sites using heterogeneous platforms and formats.

The OPALIS project aims at developing a concept for an open and extensible information system based on software component and internet technology providing integrated access to heterogeneous Geo scientific data. In order to facilitate data integration, object oriented modeling techniques are investigated to capture the structure and semantics of existing data collections as well as widely accepted standards for data representation. In the scope of this project, we focus on data sets for paleoecological research. As a feasibility study, a prototypical implementation of the developed system architecture is realized.
